In our learning journey, there are events that ignite the imagination of both students and educators. One such exceptional event took place at Sekolah Monte Sienna on Thursday, February 29, 2024 – the PYP Kidpreneur! The event, carefully planned and organized by Grade 2, Grade 4, and Grade 6 classes, unfolded under the theme “Nurturing Creativity, Entrepreneurship, and Teamwork for a Connected World.” Ms. Rachana (Grade 2 Homeroom Teacher), Ms. Evelyn (Grade 4 Homeroom Teacher), and Ms. Kristin (Grade 6 Bahasa Indonesia Teacher) played vital roles as mentors, guiding the students through the entrepreneurial process and instilling in them the value of effective teamwork.
At the heart of the PYP Kidpreneur was the theme of “Nurturing Creativity.” Students were given the freedom to explore their imaginations, generate innovative solutions, and develop creative ventures. From imaginative products to unique business concepts, the event became a platform for young minds to express their creativity.
The entrepreneurial spirit was evident as students embraced the challenges of turning their ideas into reality. The students took on the roles of budding entrepreneurs, learning essential skills such as product development, marketing, and financial management. The event provided a platform for them to experience the practical aspects of entrepreneurship, laying the foundation for future opportunities. It was delightful to see our students utilize their communication, social, and self-management skills throughout the event.
The event would not have been a success without the wholehearted support and participation of parents in their children’s entrepreneurial journey. The active involvement of parents added an extra layer of encouragement and enthusiasm, turning the PYP Kidpreneur event into a truly communal experience. From brainstorming sessions to last-minute changes, parents stood beside their children, offering guidance, encouragement, and sometimes even a helping hand. The presence of parents on the day of the event created a vibrant atmosphere, with each young entrepreneur eager to showcase their products and services.
The pride and joy evident on the faces of parents mirrored the hard work and dedication invested by the students. In addition to being spectators, many parents actively participated in the event as customers, engaging in transactions with their children and fellow parents. This hands-on experience allowed parents to witness firsthand the entrepreneurial spirit blossoming in their children. Conversations sparked between parents, sharing insights into the various projects and developing a supportive community network.
Moreover, the involvement of parents also served as a bridge between the classroom and the real world. By actively participating in their children’s entrepreneurial endeavors, parents helped to reinforce the practical applications of academic concepts, demonstrating the relevance of skills like creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving in a real-world context.
While the PYP Kidpreneur event may not have been without its challenges, it undeniably succeeded in inspiring and engaging the learning community.
